Manuel Neuer is an injury doubt for Bayern Munich’s upcoming Champions League clash with Liverpool.
The two sides meet in the first leg of their mouthwatering last-16 tie on February 19th and Bayern could be without one of their most important players.
Neuer missed Saturday’s surprise 3-1 loss away to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga – a defeat that left them seven points adrift of leaders Borussia Dortmund and third in the table.
Neuer was out after injuring his thumb in training last week and coach Niko Kovac says he is unsure how long he will be unavailable for:
I can not say exactly. When I say it will be five months, there is a big fuss, and if I say it will be five days, everyone thinks it’s not that bad.
The fact is, he was in pain. Otherwise, he would have played.
It would be a major boost to Liverpool if Neuer wasn’t fit for the clash at Anfield, with the German one of the most influential goalkeepers of his generation.
Bayern have also been sweating over the availability of veteran pair Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, but they look set to be fit in time.
