Liverpool’s three stars vs Bournemouth (H)

It was back to business as usual at Anfield this afternoon as Liverpool returned to the summit of the premier league table with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth.

Bournemouth started the game brightly with Ryan Fraser testing Allison early but Liverpool soon got a hold of the game with the man bang in form Sadio Mane getting his fourth goal in four games with a great header passed Arthur Boruc after 24 minutes. Liverpool’s front three with looking very sharp along with the returning Gini Wijnaldum who really killed the game for the reds with a glorious lobbed finish in the 34th minute after a great ball by Andy Robertson.

The next goal after the half time break was always going to be crucial and it was Mo Salah who got his goal after a great display from the premier leagues leading marksman. Naby Keita played a great ball to find Bobby Firmino who flicked it into the path of Mo Salah who finished clinically.

Unlike recent weeks for the reds there was no shortage of options for this weeks three stars but here are mine for today.

Mo Salah

The Egyptian was back to his brilliant best today after a sluggish few games causing havoc to the Bournemouth defence all game. He linked up the play brilliantly and always posed a threat every time he got the ball. Mo was unlucky to only finish with one goal after he hit the bar and a great save by Boruc after a great attempt with a volley in the first half. More of the same please Mo.

After what was probably his worst performance in a Liverpool shirt vs West Ham the Brazilian was back to his very best this afternoon. His hard work, passing and sheer intelligence was all on display today as he linked the play up to expert affect all afternoon, deserved a goal today but the flick to Salah was up there with the very best assists of the season.

Gini Wijnaldum

The Dutchman was back in the team today following an injury midweek and the difference he makes to Liverpool’s midfield was evident today. His ability to drive the reds forward and cover a lot of ground un-nerves opposition midfielders. Gini bagged a goal of the highest quality with a delightful touch and lobbed finish over the keeper after one of many of his excellent runs from the middle of the park today.

Up next for the reds is a home leg tie against the Bayern Munich then a massive clash away in Old Trafford.
