Klopp reveals he admires Tottenham’s transfer approach

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed he admires Tottenham Hotspur’s strategy in the transfer market under Mauricio Pochettino.

Spurs made the headlines ahead of the 2018-19 season as they became the first team not the sign a single player in the summer since 2003, much to the frustration of their supporters and manager.

In the same transfer window, Klopp splashed out on his Liverpool squad again, spending over £160million on Alisson, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Speaking to the press ahead of the Reds’ huge clash with Spurs on Sunday, Klopp expressed his thoughts on the opposition’s spending, or lack of, recently.

In England, the country of transfers, if you don’t do transfers then that’s a really big headline. I respect their way a lot. And if you look at their new stadium you might see where the money is. They had to pay the stadium by themselves right? So you have to save a little bit of money. There’s so many positive things you could say about Mauricio Pochettino – the whole club looks settled.

Despite eventually being left behind in the Premier League title race, just like in the transfer market, Spurs were part of a three-horse race until February but now sit 15 points adrift from the two contenders.

Pochettino and Co. will be hoping to dent Liverpool’s title credentials this weekend though, and strengthen their Champions League hopes at the same time.
