Liverpool are on the cusp of glory this season.
In the semi-finals of the Champions League, in a Premier League title race, it would be easy to think that this team can’t get much better in the summer.
However, most Reds fans would admit that the squad is far from finished. A series of players could find themselves out the door in the summer, as Jurgen Klopp seeks to cut the dead-weight from his squad.
Here are five players from La Liga that Liverpool could sign this summer:
1) Brais Mendez - Celta Vigo
Brais Mendez is a 22-year-old winger who can also play as an attacking midfielder. Could the Spaniard be the missing link for a Liverpool team sometimes in need of another dimension going forward?
2) Pablo Fornals - Villarreal
A diminutive figure who is happy on the ball, Fornals will conduct play from the central attacking midfield position. The 23-year-old could fit nicely in the 4-2-3-1 formation that Jurgen Klopp has at times deployed this season.
3) Jonathan Silva - Leganes (on loan from Sporting)
Silva is a talented left-sided player who has appeared both at full-back and on the wing this season. A versatile, lively player, Liverpool could enquire as to the Argentine’s availability this summer if Sporting have no immediate plans for him.
4) Jaime Mata - Getafe
Mata is one of the more unexpected figures on this list, but hear me out. The 30-year-old journeyman striker has scored goals everywhere he’s been in his career, and could become a seriously handy option for Liverpool to turn to during the congested period of fixtures around Christmas.
5) Andriy Lunin - Leganes (on loan from Real Madrid)
Should Simon Mignolet leave this summer, Liverpool would be in need of a new deputy for Alisson Becker. Lunin is a 20-year-old shot-stopper, and heralded as a future star. He’s only appeared three times for Leganes this season, but notably has received three caps for the Ukrainian senior side.
