Liverpool’s patience at Cardiff City ultimately paid off as they get the better of Neil Warnock’s men 2-0 in Wales.
Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner were the scorers for the Reds, who go back to the top of the table, having played a game more than Manchester City.
To be fair to the home side, they sat back and defended well in the first half. Liverpool created two very good chances, but Roberto Firmino missed a sitter, while Mohamed Salah was denied excellently by Neil Etheridge.
Jurgen Klopp’s men pressed harder for a goal after the break, and they eventually managed to break the deadlock.
A cleverly worked corner kick by Trent Alexander-Arnold in the 57th minute dovetailed with Wijnaldum’s run, who then hit the ball on the half volley sweetly to almost rip the net apart.
Liverpool doubled the lead 24 minutes later when Salah was grabbed down by Sean Morrison in the box. The referee had no choice but to give a penalty and Milner converted the spot-kick to make the points safe.
