Liverpool are being linked with a swoop for Lyon star Houssem Aouar ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Reds are reportedly keen to bring Aouar to England at the end of the season, regardless of if Liverpool manage to secure the Premier League title and, or, Champions League.
But who is the midfielder? We have compiled a factfile so that you can learn a little bit more about the man who could be lining up in Liverpool’s team next year…
He is a 20-year-old midfielder, who stands at 5ft 9.
He was born in Lyon, where he also now plays his football.
He is a box-to-box midfielder, capable of defending and attacking at either end of the pitch.
Aouar has previously revealed that his two role models in football are Juninho and Zinedane Zidane. Both midfielders who he has looked to style his play around.
Zidane and Aouar share parallels, both French internationals with Algerian descent.
Club career so far
Aouar spent three years of his youth playing for AC Villeurbanne between 2006 and 2009, before signing for hometown club Lyon.
He then played in the Lyon academy from 2009 up until his debut for the first-team in 2017.
Aouar made his debut against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League in February 2017, coming on as a substitute. His league debut, however, came against Bastia in April of that year.
Since making his Ligue 1 bow, he has made 53 league appearances for Lyon – scoring 12.
International career so far
Aouar is eligible to play for Algeria, but has been capped several times by France at youth level.
The midfielder has earned eight caps – and counting – at under-21 level, scoring twice, and was capped once by the under-17’s – in 2014.
He is yet to make his senior bow.
Who else is interested?
Aouar has attracted the interest of a host of clubs ahead of the next transfer window due to his impressive performances for Lyon in Ligue 1 and the Champions League this season.
Barcelona, Manchester City and Arsenal have all been linked with a move for the midfielder, who appears destined for a transfer this summer.
