Liverpool to approach this transfer window different than last summer

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool are unlikely to spend big this summer on fresh recruits.

This is the opposite tactic compared to how the club approached last summer, spending around £170million on four players; Xherdan Shaqiri Naby Keita, Alisson and Fabinho.

While this took level of spending took Liverpool mere inches from their first Premier League title, Klopp now wants to turn his focus on working with the current crop of talent at his disposal, while also recruiting when and if necessary.

He admitted as much during a press conference prior to a league victory over Fulham in March, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, saying:

For sure there’s no need for that level (of spending).

I don’t want to talk exactly what we will do, but I don’t think this is a team at the moment where we have to spend the big money or whatever.

The best way to do it is bring together a group of players, try to develop them altogether and then stay together for a while.

That was maybe the main problem of Liverpool for the last decade. When they had a good team after a season they went all over the world. That will not happen this year for sure.
