Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is being heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer.
Reports have claimed that AC Milan are interested in a deal for Lovren, whilst Liverpool are said to be demanding £25m for his signature.
The Croatian international lost his place in the side in the second-half of the 2018/19 campaign as Joel Matip stepped up and nailed down the spot next to Virgil Van Dijk.
With Joe Gomez also at the club, and very highly rated, it looks as though it could be the ideal time for Lovren to leave the club in search of regular game time.
If Lovren does leave the club, Liverpool will need to dip into the transfer market to replace him ahead of next season.
But who could they target? Here are some central defenders that Liverpool could look to sign within the price range of £20-30m in the coming months…
Ezri Konsa
The young centre-back enjoyed an impressive season with Brentford in the Championship and would add to Liverpool’s growing list of homegrown talent. Konsa is in the England under-21 squad for the European Championships this summer.
James Tarkowski
The Burnley centre-back has caught the eye in recent seasons and could be ready for a move to a top-six club. The English defender would be a solid option for Klopp to call upon at the back.
Fabian Schar
Schar was superb for Newcastle in his debut season at the club and is comfortable at playing out from the back with the ball. He would be well suited to Liverpool’s style of play.
Lewis Dunk
Dunk has been a key reason behind Brighton’s two years of Premier League survival and has been capped by England at international level. He could be a decent signing for Liverpool to play a back-up role.
Matthias Ginter
The Monchengladbach central defender is capable of playing in several different positions and is a German international. He would offer a good level of experience, whilst also having room for improvement.
Mario Hermaso
The Espanyol centre-back was sensational in La Liga this season and is only 24-years-old. He would be a great addition to Liverpool’s current squad and may be cheaper than other alternatives on the list.
Gianluca Mancini
Mancini enjoyed a successful campaign with Atalanta in the Serie A and helped them qualify for the Champions League. But could the Italian international now move to the winners of the competition?
