Kylian Mbappe has revealed his admiration for both Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, which is sure to fuel speculation linking him with a stunning move to Anfield.
The 19-year-old has emerged as world football’s most exciting young player, having shone at Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as winning the World Cup with France last summer.
It would take an extraordinary bid for anyone to sign him from PSG this summer, with Real Madrid thought to be contemplating a move.
There have also been reports loosely linking the Frenchman with Liverpool, as Klopp potentially looks for a marquee signing.
Speaking to ESPN prior to playing a game of FIFA, Mbappe said:
I play with Liverpool because they win the Champions League.
He was then asked about what he thought of Klopp as a manager, to which he replied:
Yeah he’s good.
These aren’t exactly earth-shattering quotes from Mbappe, but it is clear that he respects the Reds and their brilliant manager.
If a deal ever did come to fruition, it would be one of the most significant signings in Liverpool’s history.
It is likely to be little more than a pipe dream, however, especially as Klopp is not rumoured to be spending big this summer.
