What next for Liverpool as they aim to stay at the top of the European game?

It is no secret that Liverpool are one of the most exhilarating, glorious and unique projects in world football.

After their triumph in Madrid, which resulted in their sixth European Cup, one will begin to ponder and envision what further excellency this Liverpool side are capable of?

The next steps are to plan ahead in order for the club to push themselves to bigger and better achievements. So what does this club with great history need in order to improve?

A team that achieved 97 points and won the Champions League, how do you improve on that? Well, there is always something to improve. There is no perfect team but there is a way to perfect a game that will help the club achieve more excellence going forward.

Liverpool need a Philippe Coutinho replacement; a player that can break defences, a player that can open up teams that sit back to frustrate, a player that can produce that one little bit of magic when our front three are not at the peak of their powers.

There’s no denying that silly draws cost the Reds vital points last season. Games like the 1-1 draws against West Ham and Leicester reinforce the need for a Coutinho-type player in certain situations.

Despite all of this, we should not discredit Liverpool for what they have achieved. A season that ended with 97 points and no domestic title is still difficult to digest.

Moreover, it could be debated that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may be the key in the midfield next season that will help give Liverpool that extra boost. Many have argued that Naby Keita’s injuries let him down which is why he wasn’t able to excel to the level that we know he’s capable of.

In relation to the transfer market, it is crucial that Liverpool bring in players with high aspirations and hunger. One or two high calibre and versatile players will complete this excellent Liverpool side.

One player that springs to mind who fits the bill perfectly; Hakim Ziyech. After his impressive campaign in the Champions League and Eredivisie, he scored 19 goals and contributed 16 assists in all competitions.

He is a great talent and unsurprisingly Liverpool are said to be interested in the 26-year-old, according to football.london. He is quick, nimble and has an extraordinary work rate, something that Jurgen Klopp adores in his players.

Ultimately, it’s time for Liverpool to take the next step. The club should be here for the long term, not the short term. We all know during the club’s recent history, they have won major honours but have fallen into a deep decline almost immediately after.

However, it does not feel like that this time around. It feels like Klopp is here to build a dynasty, a legacy! It feels as though Liverpool have the potential to dominate in the coming years if they maintain the same drive and passion.
