Naby Keita is unlikely to return to international duty with Guinea at the Africa Cup of Nations, according to a report from The Independent.
The midfielder’s inclusion in his national team’s squad for the tournament in Egypt came as something of a surprise following his failure to finish the season with Liverpool.
Keita sustained an adductor injury towards the back-end of the campaign, which saw him miss the club’s triumph in the Champions League final, but was still taken to the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, he was forced to return to Merseyside after two matchdays following his withdrawal from Guinea’s clash with Nigeria. The former RB Leipzig man came off after 70 minutes to fly back and be reassessed by the Reds’ medical staff after seemingly aggravating the issue.
Keita, following further examinations, is now reportedly likely to struggle for fitness should his country’s place in the knockout stages of the tournament be confirmed, with a conclusion on his physical condition set to be learned on Wednesday.
