Liverpool faced the final game of their pre-season tour of the United States, taking on Sporting CP at Yankee Stadium.
The Reds were looking for their first win since flying across the Atlantic, but they couldn’t quite oblige in front of an expectant New York crowd.
Simon Mignolet’s error gifted Sporting the lead, with reported transfer target Bruno Fernandes’ shot somehow beating the Belgian.
Jurgen Klopp’s side responded impressively, though, and Divock Origi equalised from close range after Jordan Henderson was denied.
Georginio Wijnaldum put the Reds in front just before half-time but they failed to secure the win.
Wendel equalised in the second half, set up by the excellent Fernandes, in what was an entertaining contest that ended 2-2.
Next up for the Reds is a clash with Napoli on Sunday evening, as they continue to prepare for the new Premier League season.
