Liverpool’s below-par pre-season form continued as they were humbled by Italian side Napoli 3-0 at Murrayfield on Sunday afternoon.
Lorenzo Insigne and Arkadiusz Milik scored the goals in the first half, while Amin Younes added to the tally after the interval for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
After a bright start to the game, Andy Robertson produced a peach of a cross for Divock Origi. However, the Belgian star couldn’t direct the ball towards the goal.
The Liverpool striker then lost possession minutes later to allow Napoli to break down the left-hand side. Insigne drove with the ball and unleashed an unstoppable shot to give his team the lead in the 17th minute.
The score was doubled 11 minutes later when Trent Alexander-Arnold sloppily lost the ball. This time, Insigne turned provider for Milik, whose first-time finish was a beauty.
After the break, just as Jurgen Klopp’s men were starting to look good, Napoli made it three with Younes tapping home from close range.
A host of changes were made after that from both sides, and the Reds finished the game strongly, but without any goal to show for their efforts.
Here are our Liverpool player ratings from the 3-0 defeat against Napoli.
