The quintet in question are Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane, all of whom played such big roles in the success.
Alisson has established himself as arguably the world’s best goalkeeper, and he along with Van Dijk have turned Liverpool from an entertaining but inconsistent team to a true European powerhouse.
Alexander-Arnold is one of the best young full-backs in the game, with his assist for Divock Origi against Barcelona surely best and most original of the season.
Henderson, meanwhile, led the Reds superbly as captain, getting his crowning career moment in Madrid, lifting the Champions League trophy.
As for Mane, his influence in the final third continues to be priceless – 2018/19 was the season when the whole of Europe really started to sit up and take notice of him.
The Senegalese’s stunning solo effort away to Bayern Munich was a strong contender for Liverpool’s goal of the season.
Andy Robertson may be feeling a little hard done by at not being picked, though, while Mohamed Salah’s exclusion is also questionable.
