Origi’s “unbelievable” Champions League final feeling – does he remain key?

Divock Origi’s ability to score big goals can continue to be priceless for Liverpool this season, but he must also improve as a player.

The Belgian fired home some of the Reds’ most memorable strikes last season on their way to Champions League glory, with the Belgian telling The Athletic that his effort against Tottenham in the final was an “unbelievable feeling”.

Origi also describes his famous tie-clinching goal at home to Barcelona as “well executed”, while his unforgettable Premier League winner against Everton was also touched upon as a moment that ensured “my mind was just on zero.”

Origi has ensured himself legendary status at Liverpool forever, considering the huge impact he made in 2018/19.

The striker cannot afford to bask in the glory of those moments, however, and must now improve immeasurably as a footballer.

At 24, he just about has the excuse that he is still maturing a player, but more of an all-round quality to his game must be on show.

Origi is now the first choice substitute behind Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, meaning he will get opportunities to impress this season.

The pressure will be on him to perform when one of them is missing, proving that he can be relied upon over 90 minutes rather than in fleeting cameos.

The early signs are good, following a lively goalscoring display at home to Norwich City on Friday night.
