Jurgen Klopp has admitted he thought about the idea of Liverpool re-signing Philippe Coutinho this summer, but the club couldn’t afford him.
The Brazilian has experienced a disappointing spell at Barcelona and has now joined Bayern Munich on loan.
There were rumours linking Coutinho with a return to Anfield during the transfer window, but a move never came to fruition.
Speaking at the Sport Bild awards, Klopp explained why Liverpool didn’t consider a reunion:
When I first heard about it, I thought ‘that makes sense’.
As weird as it sounds, we couldn’t afford the deal. He’ll fit in well at Bayern.
Liverpool supporters have reacted to Klopp’s admission on Twitter, giving their thoughts on the matter.
How can the Champions of Europe possibly not 'afford' Coutinho's loan fee? Weird quotes from klopp

Read Liverpool Verdict
It seems a little odd that Liverpool apparently didn’t have the funds to re-sign Coutinho, considering the money they have made from transfer in recent years.
What is more likely is that Klopp simply didn’t want the 27-year-old back, having cut his ties with him in January 2018.
Once a player wants to leave a Klopp team, the chances of the German ever taking another punt on them is slim.
It may be that the Liverpool manager mulled over the move in his head, but a return to Anfield never really felt on the cards.
