It’s hard to disagree with Rafa Benitez’s three best Liverpool signings, after the former Reds boss revealed all.
Speaking during a Q&A for The Athletic, Benitez named the greatest players he brought in during his time on Merseyside, with Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano the lucky trio:
If I’m talking about my players from my time in England, it has to be [Fernando] Torres , [Xabi] Alonso and [Javier] Mascherano.
If you talk about success and performances at the top level, those players stand out.

It really is difficult to pick holes in Benitez’s choices, considering how much the three players achieved in a Liverpool shirt.
Torres was the world’s best striker at one point, having joined from Atletico Madrid, and he scored 81 goals in 142 appearances for the Reds.
Alonso was a majestic footballer who made a huge difference to Liverpool’s side, winning the Champions League in his first season at the club.
Meanwhile, Mascherano one of Liverpool’s most influential midfielders of the last 20 years, mastering the defensive midfield role.
Benitez made some superb signings – the likes of Pepe Reina and Dirk Kuyt deserve a mention – but Torres, Alonso and Mascherano are the right picks.
