Aymeric Laporte’s injury is a potentially pivotal moment in the Premier League title race, but Manchester City remain favourites over Liverpool.
Laporte was stretchered off in City’s 4-0 win over Brighton on Saturday, suggesting he could be set to miss a chunk of action.
Barring Virgil van Dijk, the Frenchman was the Premier League’s outstanding centre-back last season.
Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, Gary Neville believes it could be a big moment in the season, with Liverpool “confident” of sealing glory:
If Laporte is out for a long period of time, I think it will cost City points. He is a dominant centre-back. He is a brilliant player, Laporte.
I just look at it and think it’s a real worry.
I think Liverpool will be confident going into the international break, and they probably don’t want the international break to come.

Laporte’s absence is a clear boost for Liverpool, although an injury to any player should never be celebrated.
The defender has been superb for the champions and they have nobody else on his level.
As Neville says, Vincent Kompany leaving also leaves a huge void, even though he is no longer the player he once was.
All of a sudden, City look light in centre-back areas, which could affect their feel of invincibility.
Pep Guardiola’s side are still favourites to win three Premier League titles on the bounce, but if Laporte is out for a while, Liverpool will fancy their chances.
