Manchester City remain Premier League title favourites, with their squad depth giving them the edge over Liverpool.
The Reds sit top of the table after winning their opening four matches this season, two points clear of the reigning champions.
Speaking on Wednesday, on the day that he played in Vincent Kompany’s testimonial, Carragher said he believes City still have the edge:
I think it’s a bit early yet. I think we’ve got to probably wait until Christmas.
I do feel around about Christmas time Liverpool and City will have a substantial gap and it looks like there’s a little bit of a gap at this moment.
But I still think City are favourites and are the best team in the Premier League at this moment because they won the Premier League and they proved that last season.
So, I think it’s still on Liverpool to overtake City but they’re more than capable.

While it’s easy to get over-excited from a Reds perspective, and it’s never bad to be optimistic, City should still be regarded as title favourites.
They know exactly how to get over the finish line, having won the league in the last two seasons, which is key.
On top of that, their squad depth is superior to Liverpool’s, as last season showed when they picked up 98 points without star man Kevin De Bruyne for much of the campaign.
Liverpool are a wonderful side in their own right, however, and if they keep all of their key players fit, they have a good chance of going all the way.
There can be no denying that City are the team to beat, though – if the Reds manage to pip them to the title, it would be one of the greatest achievements in the club’s history.
