Joe Gomez is renowned as one of the most exciting young centre-backs of his generation, overcoming injury problems to become a key squad member for Liverpool and England.
One thing you don’t associate the 22-year-old with is free-kicks, but that has changed in an instant.
In a FIFA Ratings free-kick challenge video released on Liverpool’s official Twitter page, Gomez shows unbelievable accuracy, scoring every one of his five attempts.
The defender comprehensively beats those he is taking on – Trent Alexander-Arnold, Xherdan Shaqiri and Roberto Firmino – defying the odds in the process.
These Reds supporters showed their appreciation for Gomez on Twitter.

The video sums up the technical expertise at Gomez’s disposal, even though he is more renowned for the defensive side of his game.
Virgil van Dijk also steps up and hits a couple of beauties, further highlighting the need for Liverpool’s defenders to be superb on the ball.
Although Alexander-Arnold is likely to remain on free-kick duties for the Reds, Gomez’s brilliance may give Jurgen Klopp food for thought.
Then again, it’s very difficult replicating such accuracy in a match situation, when the pressure is on.
