Liverpool fans discuss who the Reds’ most important player is

Selecting Liverpool’s most important player is an extremely difficult task.

In years gone by, the likes of Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez were obvious choices, but there are now a plethora of world class players to choose from.

Alisson is a monster in goal, Virgil van Dijk’s defensive influence is unrivalled, full-back pair Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are outstanding and then there’s the small matter of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

These Liverpool supporters have been giving their opinions on who should be the first name on Jurgen Klopp’s team-sheet – do you agree?

The general consensus among these fans is that Firmino comes out on top and it’s hard to argue.

The Brazilian remains one of the most subtly effective players in the world, combining goals, creativity, intelligence and a superb work ethic.

Then again, Van Dijk rightly gets a number of mentions and there is a strong argument to say that he is Liverpool’s most important player.

An injury to the 28-year-old would have a potentially devastating effect on the Reds’ Premier League title chances.

It’s a surprise to see Salah and Mane not receive more votes, but that goes to show how priceless Firmino and Van Dijk are.

Plus, the Brazilian’s current blistering form means recency bias can come into play.

In terms of how the team functions, though, it has to be Firmino or Van Dijk right now.
