Sheffield United fans are left stunned by Van Dijk’s brilliance

Virgil van Dijk produced a defensive masterclass at Sheffield United on Saturday, helping Liverpool win 1-0.

The Dutchman was the Reds’ standout player at Bramall Lane, but his brilliance wasn’t only recognised by his own fans.

An online forum for Blades supporters, s24su.com, has seen Van Dijk earn rave reviews, as he thwarted their side and ensured Liverpool kept up their 100 percent record in the Premier League.

Here’s a look at some of the best comments, with huge praise coming the 28-year-old’s way:

Akinbiyi: “Best centre half I’ve ever seen come to the Lane I think and thoroughly deserves the awards and plaudits he gets. What a sublime performance. Won absolutely everything, no one got past him, no one came close in truth. I’ve not seen a centre half so aerially dominant in a long time.

Bladesman: “He is everywhere. You think you have played a great ball into the box and out of no where he dangles a leg at it to clear the ball.”

jaybee: “He’s ridiculous, amazing to watch.”

ChemEngBlade: “An absolute masterclass in how to defend.”

It’s actually reaching the stage where Liverpool fans must be careful that they don’t take Van Dijk for granted.

The level he plays at every week is so astonishingly high that you simply expect it now. A nine-out-of-10 showing is the norm.

Van Dijk is a special player who is threatening to go down as one of the best centre-backs of the last 30 years.

If he can keep up this level for several more years, winning trophies along the way, that will be the case.
