Henderson heaps praise on Reds youngsters – how many will make the grade?

Most of Liverpool’s senior stars were afforded a night off last Wednesday, as a young Reds side won 2-0 away to MK Dons in the Carabao Cup third round.

There were five debuts given by Jurgen Klopp in total, with Caoimhin Kelleher, Harvey Elliott and Rhian Brewster all starting on their Reds bows.

Speaking to LiverpoolFC.com, captain Jordan Henderson was full of praise for the exciting batch of youngsters, singling out a few for special praise:

We were all buzzing for Curtis Jones to pick up the MOTM award, particularly knowing how much it will have meant to him being a local lad.

Well-deserved as well – he was brilliant. But I think Curt would be the first to admit there were plenty of decent candidates for it on the night.

To see Harvey Elliott play as maturely and as confidently as he did, aged just 16, was tremendous.

And Caoimhin Kelleher produced a couple of worldie saves to show why he’s so highly thought of.

Making the grade in this current Liverpool team is harder than ever, considering Klopp has assembled a group of Champions League winners.

The German has always been an advocate of youth, however, so he will not hesitate in giving emerging individuals minutes if he thinks they are good enough.

Curtis Jones and Elliott were the most impressive performers at MK Dons, with the latter looking an outrageous talent.

With Liverpool looking a little short in attacking areas, should Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino get injured, chances may arise for the 16-year-old and others, including Brewster, as the season progresses.
