Manchester City have been asked for information regarding a hacking despite with Liverpool, according to the Times.
Described as “a significant escalation of the controversy”, the FA want to see if the case is worth pursuing.
The issue arose after City accused Liverpool of hacking the club’s scouting system. The Reds were then rumoured to have paid City £1 million.
The Premier League is yet to become involved, but these latest developments could force them to.
This is not an official investigation, it should be stressed, but the FA’s rules do include the following clause when it comes to conduct:
A participant should at all times act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute.
The rumoured £1 million in compensation was believed to have taken place back in September 2013, during Brendan Rodgers’ time as manager.
The Ulsterman returns to Anfield on Saturday afternoon, as his in-form Leicester City side take on the Reds.

It’s certainly a sticky situation for both clubs and the hope is that the issue is resolved in the near future.
It remains to be seen what the end result will be, but either way, it has to be treated as a lesson learned for Liverpool.
