Liverpool may be favourites to win the Premier League this season, but it’s far too early for reckless predictions.
The Reds find themselves eight points clear of Manchester City in the title race, having won all eight of their games to date.
When asked by Sky Sports whether or not thought Liverpool had the title in the bag, former goalkeeper Chris Kirkland gave a frank response:
I honestly do think it is.
Last year was so unlucky. People say losing by one point was devastating, I would rather have lost by one point than be 15, 16 points behind City still.
I think with City’s injury problems they’ve got at the back, [Aymeric] Laporte is a huge miss, Vincent Kompany is a massive miss for them. At the back you can get at them.
When we play them, if we can take points off them then all of a sudden you’re talking double figures.

The positivity among Liverpool supporters is more than understandable at the moment, with this arguably the Reds’ best-ever chance of kicking on and winning the Premier League title race.
It is so easy to forget that only eight matches have been played, however, with 90 points still to play for.
All it takes is for dropped points to arrive in the next few games, which are tricky fixtures on paper, and the gap between Liverpool and City could be far narrower when they meet at Anfield on November 10th.
This is a magnificent City team that Liverpool are up against, too – one that never gives up and will be hellbent on winning a third title in a row.
The next month or so feels particularly pivotal.
