England’s 6-0 win away to Bulgaria on Monday night was tarnished by racist chants from the home supporters.
It led to the game being halted twice during the first half, with the players on the verge of leaving the pitch at one point.
Gareth Southgate and his squad have handled themselves impressively in an awkward situation, not least Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Liverpool star took to Twitter to criticise quotes from Bulgaria boss Krasimir Balakov, who stated he didn’t hear any racist chants from the stands:
Is this guy for real? The way the team stuck together last night was unreal but we can't ignore what happened. The racism has gotta stop. https://t.co/9HMTgG5wrp

These Reds supporters have applauded the 21-year-old for further highlighting the issue.
Tell them, trent 👊🏻

Well put Trent👏🏾 ignoring and refusing to accept what happened is as good as doing the act itself.

It is a sad indictment of the modern world that such behaviour is still occurring in 2019.
Balakov has only made matters worse by choosing to ignore the chants – it is completely unacceptable.
Hats off to Alexander-Arnold for making sure his idiocy doesn’t end up going unnoticed.
