Most of Liverpool’s senior players have returned to their best this season after an underwhelming 2025-26 campaign under Arne Slot.

Alexis Mac Allister, in particular, is loving life under Andoni Iraola and has also been among the goals this season with four to his name across all competitions.

However, the Argentine’s future has emerged as a big talking point as he revealed earlier this season that he hadn’t been offered a new deal by the club.

And now, Iraola feels the fact that he’s here now and wants to stay is good news for Liverpool.

Andoni Iraola praises Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister

“You mention the press conference [before the Atletico Madrid game], I was there also after him,” said the Spaniard in his pre-match press conference.

“The most important thing from it was that he wants to stay here. He wants to be at his best so he can continue helping us. For a player who has achieved what he has achieved to be clear with his intentions is very good for us. I appreciate him and he is a top player.”

“He understands the game overall. Not just the demands of his position but what is happening overall.

“Sometimes he is the first to correct his teammates live, not just the one that is next to him. He understands what is happening, which is a very good quality to have.”

Mac Allister has been in fine form this season and is expected to start tomorrow when Liverpool take on Arsenal.

If he carries on in the same vein, offering him a new deal will be quite straightforward for Liverpool, but considering he’s 28 now, it’s not hard to see why the Reds want to let this one play out before making a decision in 2027.
