Liverpool to rival Man United and Tottenham for Maddison signing

Liverpool are set to rival Manchester United and Tottenham for the signing of James Maddison, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The Leicester City star has made an excellent start to the season, with many tipping him to be a key man for England at Euro 2020.

Maddison has been linked with Liverpool in the past, although nothing concrete has emerged as of yet.

United could be the frontrunners to sign the 22-year-old, due to the “personal relationship between executives Ed Woodward and his opposite number Susan Whelan.”

While United may arguably be the current favourites to get their man, it is hard to see the benefit of joining them over Liverpool at the moment.

Moving to Anfield is a far more exciting proposition, and while playing time may not be quite as guaranteed as it would be at Old Trafford, Maddison would be a very good addition.

Similarly, Spurs are having struggles of their own this season, so there is a feeling that Liverpool could get their man if they want him.

Much will depend on that, of course, with Jurgen Klopp famously hesitant to sign players in the transfer market unless they are his number one target.
