Liverpool fans condemn racist Origi banner unveiled before Genk clash

Liverpool have condemned a racist banner that was put up in the away end ahead of the Reds UEFA Champions League clash with Genk.

The banner was taken down, and the club have made a statement about the matter.

Liverpool Football Club condemns the offensive banner displayed in our section of the ground, prior to kick off.

To be clear, the image used perpetuated a racist stereotype.

This is completely unacceptable.

We acted swiftly to have the banner removed and we are now working with the local authorities and stadium team in Genk to identify those responsible.

Any subsequent action will be taken in keeping with our sanctions process.

Several Liverpool fans joined the club in their condemnation of the banner on Twitter.

The banner doesn’t really have a place in football in 2019.

Especially after the events of the last week, this is really not needed.

Hopefully the people responsible are found and given punishments.
