Shaqiri ruled out until after the November international break

Xherdan Shaqiri has been ruled out until after the November international break, as he continues to struggle with a calf injury.

The 28-year-old hasn’t played for the Reds since a late cameo away to Napoli on September 17th.

There had been some hope that Shaqiri was nearing a return, but he will remain sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Jurgen Klopp’s assistant Pepijn Lijnders confirmed as much on Tuesday, as he took charge of press conference duties ahead of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup fourth round clash with Arsenal at Anfield.

In terms of being a big loss, Shaqiri’s absence is not a major blow for the Reds, because he had been a peripheral figure anyway.

He is still a handy squad player to have around, however, and his quality will hpoefully come in handy as the season progresses.

After such a promising start to his Liverpool career, Shaqiri has gone backwards, but will hopefully go up a gear once he returns from injury.
