Liverpool fans loved brilliant young trio’s performances against Arsenal

Liverpool beat Arsenal 5-4 on penalties at Anfield in an exhilarating game on Wednesday night, having drawn 5-5 after 90 minutes.

Jurgen Klopp shuffled his squad, leaving no senior outfield players on the bench, giving the likes of Neco Williams, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones first-team action.

Williams looked a little shaky in the first half, and rightly so. The debutant is only 18, at the end of the day.

He grew into the game and thrived off the Anfield atmosphere, though, and he produced a fantastic cross to assist Divock Origi in stoppage time, making it 5-5 on the night.

Elliott looked a class act throughout the evening, winning a penalty, while substitute Jones also assisted Origi and fired home the winning spot-kick in the shootout.

Liverpool fans could not contain their delight at the impact of Williams, Elliott and Jones on Twitter – here is what they had to say about the Reds youngsters.

What an incredible night it was at Anfield.

The headlines will be about the scoreline, but don’t let this distract you from the fact that Williams, Elliot and Jones have the potential to make it to the top.

Williams impressed the most.

He was up against Bukayo Saka tonight, who is a brilliant young player, but the way Williams dealt with himself defensively and offensively was superb.

Elliot’s footwork, dynamism and flair was a delight to watch – he is only 16 and the way he handled himself was phenomenal.

Finally, the local lad, Curtis Jones. He was lively and energetic when he came off the bench, but the talking point was his winning penalty. The way he took authority to step up under immense pressure was extraordinary.
