Werner must accept squad role if he wants to join Liverpool

Timo Werner continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool, even though nothing concrete has emerged yet.

The German is expected to leave RB Leipzig at the end of the season, with Anfield seen as a possible next destination.

According to the Express, Jurgen Klopp will only make a move for Werner if he accepts a squad role.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are the undisputed first-choice front-three and it would take someone very special to change that.

Bayern Munich are seen as strong contenders to sign Werner, while a switch to Manchester United has also been mooted.

Werner is a top striker, scoring 76 goals in 130 appearances for Leipzig, as well as playing regularly for Germany.

If he wants to join Liverpool, though, he has to accept that he wouldn’t be playing every week.

That’s the standard that the Reds have set under Klopp, with superb players having to make do with a place on the substitutes’ bench.

Werner would be an excellent signing, should he accept his role in the squad and a deal be agreed.
