Alexander-Arnold has been a joy to watch at times this season, with his technical expertise unrivalled in Liverpool’s squad.

Gerrard used to watch Alexander-Arnold during his academy days, seeing “something different” immediately.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the Liverpool legend believes his attitude has been as important as his talent when it comes to making the grade at Anfield:

I was lucky to have a few days around Trent during his Academy days and he stood out.

Of course people always talk about his technique and the stuff they see, but I saw something in this kid that was more about character.

So talent will get you to a certain place, but I seen that he had the fight, the desire and commitment and that is what will keep him there consistently throughout what will hopefully be a long career.

The talent is so obvious but I saw something different in him and it was more to do with the character and that is the reason why he is where he is.

He is already a key man for the European champions, becoming the youngest player in history to start back-to-back Champions League finals.

Alexander-Arnold can be anything he wants to be, as Gerrard alludes to, surely captaining Liverpool in the future, and possibly even England.
