Liverpool remain interested in signing Wigan star Gelhardt

Liverpool are still in the race to sign Joe Gelhardt, although a January move is unlikely, according to the Daily Star.

The 17-year-old is one of the most exciting young players in the Championship, having thrived for Wigan Athletic, particularly in their academy.

Gelhardt’s performances have alerted both the Reds and rivals Manchester United, and Chelsea are now also believed to be in the mix.

Tottenham and Everton are mentioned as potential suitors, too, suggesting the forward has a bright future in the game.

Wigan are under “no pressure” to sell Gelhardt in January, so a summer exit feels more likely.

Liverpool is a wonderful place for any young player to ply their trade currently, thriving in the club’s academy and getting the chance of play alongside senior players in the Carabao Cup.

The likes of Ki-Jana Hoever and Harvey Elliott are examples of that and Gelhardt could be the same.

Liverpool are one of the most exciting clubs in Europe, so the lure of representing the Reds could sway his thinking.
