Liverpool fans laud Wijnaldum’s goalscoring record for Netherlands

Gini Wijnaldum is known as one of Liverpool’s more subtly effective players, proving to be a key cog in the machine.

The Dutchman performs his midfield role impressively, but is rarely the headline-maker in Jurgen Klopp’s team.

When it comes to playing for the Netherlands, however, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Wijnaldum bagged a hat-trick against Estonia on Tuesday evening, as he captained his country to a 5-0 win.

It means the 29-year-old has now scored eight goals in his last seven games for his country, as well as registering three assists in that time.

These Liverpool supporters have been lauding Wijnaldum on Twitter, urging him to take his international goalscoring form with him to Liverpool.

Wijnaldum is excelling for the Netherlands, but he is playing a very different role to the one at Anfield.

The midfielder is given far more freedom to express him in the final third, as was often the case during his PSV Eindhoven and Newcastle United days.

Wijnaldum may be less effective for the Reds in terms of goals, but he still shines in the middle of the park, whether it be his positional sense, use of the ball or physicality.
