Fabinho turned down the chance to join Manchester City and Manchester United, according to his brother-in-law.

The Brazilian moved to Liverpool in the summer of 2018, arriving with a big reputation from Monaco.

He has blossomed into a world-class midfielder for the Reds, proving to be one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp’s team-sheet.

Fabinho was wanted by a number of top clubs prior to moving to Anfield, however, before Klopp persuaded him to join.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Ricardo Assis claims his relative turned down both Manchester clubs, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus:

Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus also talked to his agent, but it was Liverpool that made all the effort to sign him,” Assis said.

Klopp showed him videos of the team, explained why he wanted to sign him.

But he also made it clear that it wouldn’t be straightforward for him to be a regular starter from the beginning.

Fabinho left the meeting determined to join Liverpool.

Fabinho is arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world at the moment, proving to be a huge influence for Liverpool.

His all-round game is bordering on perfect and he is mastering a position the Reds have struggled to fill since Javier Mascherano left back in 2010.

Fabinho may have made a slow start, but he hasn’t looked back since and is truly indispensable.

Thankfully, Klopp’s words swayed his thought process, rather than moving to one of Liverpool’s rivals.
