Bayern Munich missed out on the chance to sign Sadio Mane, according to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
The Senegalese has become a superstar at Liverpool since joining from Southampton in 2016.
His pace, movement and end product make him one of the most feared wide players in the world and he has arguably been the Reds’ star player this season.
Mane’s career could have panned out very differently, however, had Bayern got their man.
Speaking to Bild, chief executive Rummenigge admits the Bundesliga giants could have snapped up the 27-year-old before he moved to Saints:
We had an interest in Mane, but somehow it didn’t work out. He then went to Southampton and later Liverpool. A shame.

It is a blessing in disguise that Mane never moved to Bayern – had that happened, there is every chance he would never have become a Liverpool player.
The German side missed a trick in not acquiring his signature – he is now bordering on being a Reds legend.
If Jurgen Klopp’s side can seal Premier League glory this season, that will surely be the case.
