Guardiola fires shot at Liverpool for being ‘in debit’ to Man City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has aimed a dig at Liverpool, claiming the club are still ‘in debit’ to City as they played more games last season.

The Reds will face Everton this evening and should they beat their local rivals they would move back to being 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Manchester City beat Burnley 4-1 in convincing fashion on Tuesday, but the Cityzens are still a way behind the Reds, who are on their way to their first Premier League title success.

Liverpool will now face the prospect of potentially playing 10 games in 30 days, but Guardiola doesn’t have any sympathy, as reported by Metro Sport, instead poking at Liverpool for having played less games than them last season. Guardiola said:

We are the only team who have eight games? Liverpool [have] nine.

Last year we played 10 games more than Liverpool so don’t worry, they are still in debit.

But it is what it is, it’s a crazy month in December so… no problem, we are going to try, no problem.

I don’t think Guardiola had any ill intentions behind his comment, it definitely comes off as a tongue-in-cheek ribbing at Liverpool’s expense.

Guardiola knows that his side now faces a very difficult task in coming back against the Reds, and any mind games he can play could help him extraordinarily.

However, I think this was just a jovial comment.
