After weeks of uncertainty, and a cagey start to the game in the picturesque city of Salzburg, Liverpool comfortably found their way into the last-16 of the Champions League.

It was a performance of maturity and calmness and once again brought out the best qualities in this iconic Reds side.

Now the attention turns to Monday’s knockout stage draw, where the current holders will find out who they will be playing in the next round.

After a convincing away win against a dangerous Salzburg side, Liverpool now go back into the draw being the team that nobody will want to face.

Whoever is given the task of facing them in the last-16 will have to knock out Jurgen Klopp’s men over two legs for the first time since he has been at Anfield.

What an incredible statistic that is.

It is going to be a tough task for whoever the Reds face, but without sounding arrogant, is there anyone Liverpool should genuinely be wary of?

The answer to that question is no, to put it bluntly. Any challenges that this Liverpool team have faced, they have answered.

We are talking about a side who came back from a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona and one that dominated Bayern Munich.

As well as this, Salzburg hadn’t failed to score a goal since March, yet the Reds still came away with a clean-sheet.

If Liverpool get an ‘easier’ draw in the face of Lyon or potentially Shakhtar Donetsk, for example, it will probably be met with the same reaction as last year, with journalists and football ‘experts’ losing their heads about it.

Liverpool could draw one of the Madrid giants , however, and to knock them out would again answer more questions.

There is no reason why the Reds can’t get all the way to Istanbul and repeat their 2005 heroics – they are going to be the last team anyone will want to face.

Will Liverpool retain their Champions League crown?
