Many have tipped Werner to join the Jurgen Klopp revolution at Liverpool, but Chelsea may have jumped in front in the race to sign him.

The Blues are reportedly weighing up triggering his release clause at Leipzig in January, which is thought to be anywhere between £25.6 million and £51.2 million.

Frank Lampard is free to sign players again, after Chelsea’s transfer ban was lifted.

Werner feels like a perfect signing for Liverpool, given his age, ability and style of play.

It was always clear that they were going to face a battle for his signature, however, with Chelsea joined by Manchester United and Real Madrid in expressing an interest.

Werner feels tailor-made to succeed in the Premier League and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
