Liverpool fans react as Tierney is named referee against Sheffield United

Liverpool host Sheffield United on Thursday evening, knowing victory will take them another step towards Premier League glory.

The Reds have remarkably still only dropped two points in the league this season, but the Blades will provide a stern test for them.

Chris Wilder’s side have been a revelation since being promoted from the Championship, sitting eighth in the table and proving to be an awkward opponent.

Paul Tierney has been confirmed as the referee for the game, with Kevin Friend on VAR duty.

These Liverpool supporters have been providing their thoughts on the appointments on Twitter, with plenty of negativity on show.

Yeah shockingly bad. But most are these days.

Liverpool should have enough quality to prevail regardless of the officials, but it is sad that there is so much scrutiny surrounding them these days.

The general standard of refereeing does seem to have dropped and the introduction of VAR hasn’t helped in the slightest.

Let’s hope Tierney and Friend do their jobs on Thursday, meaning we can focus on talking about the game instead.
