Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez can become the best centre-back pairing in Premier League history, according to Martin Keown.
Gomez has found a rich vein of form since overcoming a broken leg, making the most of injuries to Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren.
Meanwhile, Van Dijk continues to show why many regard him as the world’s best centre-back, producing all-conquering performances at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.
Speaking on Match of the Day 2, Keown heaped praise on the Reds duo, tipping them to become a truly great centre-back pairing:
I think they’re going to be as good as anything you’re ever going to see in the Premier League.
That’s high praise indeed but honestly I think they’re magnificent. It’s their pace but also their ability to pass the ball.
The full backs can push on because these two give you the license to do that with their pace.

Gomez received some unfair criticism after his return from injury, but it was clear that he would take time to hit top form again.
The 22-year-old is showing that he is the natural long-term partner for Van Dijk, although Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren remain good options, particularly the former.
This level of competition is strong at Liverpool, having gone so long without depth in their squad.
