Rio Ferdinand believes Liverpool’s players are ‘scared’ of making bold statements about winning the Premier League his season.
The Reds secured yet another victory on Thursday night, beating Sheffield United 2-0 at Anfield.
It means Jurgen Klopp’s side are 13 points clear of Leicester City with a game in hand, and in pole position to finally end the long wait for title glory.
Ferdinand knows a thing or two about what it takes to be a champion, having earned great success during his Manchester United days.
Speaking to BT Sport, the former centre-back believes Liverpool’s players are wary of jinxing their success – something he experienced during his career:
Milner is the only one who has won a Premier League title in that dressing room so a lot will be looking at him, but a lot of them will using the manager as that yard stick, and saying we don’t want to get carried away.
Everyone does look at it and say it’s mundane, but you’re scared. I was scared to get excited. I sense that a little bit with these guys.
You’re confident but you don’t want to tempt fate, you don’t want to bring yourself any bad luck, this club has gone 30 years without winning a league title so it’s all those little things that are building up and the pressure that comes from within the city.

Liverpool couldn’t be handling the pressure any better at the moment, as they look to make themselves legends forever.
Klopp is keeping his players level-headed and they aren’t getting carried away for a second.
It may be cliched, but they really do need to take one game at a time and continue to be relentless.
