Jurgen Klopp remains unsure about whether or not Takumi Minamino will make his Liverpool debut this weekend.
The Reds host Everton in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, in what promises to be a feisty affair.
Minamino was ineligible to face Sheffield United on Thursday evening, watching on from the stands.
The Japanese star can feature against Everton, however, with many expecting Klopp to hand him his Liverpool bow.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Klopp was keeping his cards close to his chest, comparing the situation to Virgil van Dijk’s debut two years ago:
I think it’s pretty much the same situation, I’m not 100 per cent sure.
Virg was injured before, he didn’t play for a while I think for Southampton. So, when he came in, I remember the morning session, I decided in the morning because it was not the actual plan; then, in the morning I just thought, ‘Why not? Come on, let’s give it a try.’ It was obviously a good decision that time.
Takumi is here and had three sessions with the team now, that’s not so much. But it’s football still.
He had kind of time off when Salzburg went into the winter break, he had time off and we were not allowed to bring him here to train with us in that time.
He was back in Japan, which was nice as well. He came here in a good shape. So, let’s see.

Minamino’s potential debut brings back great memories of Van Dijk’s first Liverpool appearance.
The Dutchman scored a late winner against Everton, also at Anfield in the FA Cup, and hopefully Minamino will do the same.
With Klopp expected to ring the changes, it would be a surprise if the 24-year-old didn’t feature, if not start proceedings.
He looks a hugely exciting signing, if his performances for Salzburg in the Champions League are anything to go by.
