Liverpool fans are stunned after Wijnaldum is linked with summer exit

Gini Wijnaldum has been linked with a shock summer exit from Liverpool.

According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, the Reds wouldn’t be completely against the idea of selling the Dutchman at the end of the season, even though they would rather keep hold of him.

Wijnaldum’s current deal expires in the summer of 2021, when they would lose him on a free transfer.

It is a surprise story that has left many Liverpool supporters perplexed, given the 29-year-old’s influence at Anfield.

These Reds fans took to Twitter to voice their disappointment.

David Ornstein is generally seen as a reliable source, which is why this report has seemingly attracted plenty of attention.

In my opinion, Wijnaldum still has so much to offer Liverpool, so it would be a huge surprise if the club were willing to let him go and on the surface, it’s difficult to think why he would want to leave.

He’s playing plenty of games for the reigning champions of Europe and the team sitting at the top of the Premier League table, and as long as he’s happy in the city and with the financial package offered to him, it would be strange to think that he’d want to leave.

The Dutchman is one of my personal favourite Liverpool and the fact that he was selected to play in 47 games last season and 27 games already this season suggests that Jurgen Klopp is happy with him too.

Hopefully, Ornstein’s report doesn’t turn out to be true as I for one would be upset to see Wijnaldum go.
