Leicester suffer huge blow as Ndidi expected to be out for ‘several weeks’

Leicester City have suffered a huge injury blow with the news that Wilfred Ndidi is set to miss ‘several weeks’ of action, according to Sky Sports commentator Gary Taphouse on Twitter.

The 23-year-old hurt his knee in training on Tuesday, immediately ruling him out of his side’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg the following day.

Ndidi is set to undergo surgery on the problem on Thursday, with Brendan Rodgers confirming after the game that he will be out for the next month or so.

It means the Foxes will have to make do without one of their most influential players this season, acting as a boost to Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

Ndidi has won the most tackles (85) in the league so far in 2019/20, according to the Premier League’s official website, acting as a superb shield in front of the back-four.

This is a massive blow for Leicester, who still sit second in the table, 13 points adrift of Liverpool having played a game extra.

Although other Leicester players earn more praise, such as Jamie Vardy and James Maddison, Ndidi is the glue that holds the Foxes together.

His discipline at the heart of the midfield allows teammates to express themselves and Rodgers’ side will now look more open in the middle of the park in his absence.
