Minamino reveals why he joined Liverpool

Liverpool new boy Takumi Minamino has revealed why he choose to join the Reds, despite interest from Manchester United, as reported by Metro Sport.

Jurgen Klopp’s side confirmed the signing of the Japan international in mid December for a low fee of just £7.25million, his release clause at RB Leipzig.

Manchester United had been interested in the 24-year old but it was the Premier League champions-elect who stole a march on their rival, securing his transfer before the opening of the January transfer window.

Asked why he decided to join Liverpool, Minamino told France Football (via GFFN) that he was ‘surprised’ to hear of Klopp’s interest, saying:

I received an offer from what is currently the best club on the planet, that means a lot to me.

I felt that I was very fortunate, a wonderful opportunity that I really wanted to take.

Everything began with my entourage, I knew that Liverpool were interested in me.

I was surprised, but after having faced them twice in the Champions’ League and having had the opportunity to speak with Jurgen Klopp, I became more and more excited to take this challenge on.

The fact that I scored a goal at Anfield gave me a certain level of confidence.

I said to myself that I want to savour this atmosphere more often.

With Liverpool having enjoyed Champions League success over the past two seasons, reaching the final and winning the following year, and with the club on their way to their first Premier League title, it is no surprise that the club represent such an attractive project to become a part of.

Minamino isn’t wrong in described the Reds as the current best club on the planet, and following Liverpool’s defeat of Tottenham, the Liverpool Echo confirmed that the club had broken an English football record.

Liverpool have 61 points in the Premier League after 21 league games, and that is more points at that stage of the season than any other top club has won in the English top flight ever, over that period of games.

As much as recent silverware has benefited Liverpool, it seems as though the club’s elevated platform that accompanies success in competitions has become the club’s greatest gift over the past few seasons.
