Timo Werner’s potential move to Bayern Munich this summer won’t be happening, according to journalist Raphael Honigstein.

The 23-year-old could leave RB Leipzig at the end of the season, with several top clubs linked with him, including Chelsea.

Liverpool are reportedly one of those, although nothing too concrete has appeared in that respect.

Speaking on The Athletic’s Transfer Daily Podcast, Honigstein ruled out Bayern bringing Werner to the club, acting as a boost to the Reds:

He’s sort of fallen out with Bayern, he’s disappointed, even a couple of days ago, Hasan Salihamidzic the Bayern sporting director again doubled down and explained why he didn’t think Werner would be a good fit.

That option’s gone and now it’s a case of looking at the options available, looking at who’s going to be the manager by the time he arrives in the summer, lots of big clubs don’t even know themselves.

And then he has to make a decision. I think a decision will be made, as far as I’m aware, having had a bit of contact with the people close to him, it’s probably going to be made by March, April.

Until then, there’ll be lots of meetings and lots of clubs trying to sell themselves as well as possible as the best destination to him.

I think this is clearly a bonus for Liverpool, should they have genuine interest in Werner.

Bayern are naturally appealing to any German player, so seeing them reportedly out of the race to sign the striker has to be a good thing.

On paper, I believe Werner would be a perfect signing for Liverpool, in terms of his profile.

He is young, versatile and brimming with quality in the final third – he has scored 18 goals and registered six assists in the Bundesliga this season – all of which we believe would appeal to Jurgen Klopp.

Werner will be looking for regular starts in our eyes, but with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all around, that will be unlikely, in my opinion.

I think this could ultimately play a major part in the Germany international choosing to go elsewhere, unless one of the front-three moves on.
