Another Liverpool game was overshadowed by VAR controversy as Roberto Firmino was denied a goal against Manchester United.

Firmino curled the ball into the far corner inside the box with a brilliant finish, but VAR deemed Virgil Van Dijk to have fouled David De Gea in the build-up to the strike.

These Liverpool fans reacted to the call…

READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Whilst I can understand why some Liverpool fans are annoyed with the decision, I can also see why the VAR referee overruled it. Van Dijk goes up for the ball, but gets nowhere near it and jumps into De Gea’s chest. This caused him to drop the ball and allow Liverpool possession, leading to the goal. It’s soft, but – due to the reasoning above – I can understand the referee’s original decision being overturned the goal being ruled out.

Although, it has to be said that it was a beautiful finish from Firmino to score the goal. Even though it did not count, hopefully that will give him some extra confidence in front of goal – by producing a finish of that standard.
