Liverpool famously beat Carlo Ancelotti’s AC Milan side in the 2005 Champions League final, battling back from 3-0 down to eventually win on penalties.
It is widely seen as the greatest night in the club’s history – it definitely is, in my opinion – making legends of those who took part in Istanbul.
Ancelotti is now in charge at Everton, of course, where he has steadied the ship since arriving as manager.
Even the highly thought of Italian doesn’t seem to be able to prevent Liverpool’s rivals from doing the ridiculous, however, as Tuesday night showed.
The Blues were leading 2-0 at home to Newcastle United deep into stoppage time, only to somehow draw 2-2.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Ancelotti used Istanbul as an example of recovering from such a blow, which is sure to rile Everton fans, who loathe any mention of Liverpool:
Of course the players are really sad in this moment.
I said to them that I lost the final of the Champions League winning 3-0, so it can happen sometimes.
These Reds supporters have been reacting to Ancelotti’s comments on Twitter, loving what they heard.
Best way to win the Everton dressing room: bring this up. Nice one Carlo. pic.twitter.com/G2uCk1DYqq

Looks like he didn't get the "Never mention Istanbul" memo on his induction day.
